I found this campaign while looking through the portfolios at the CMYK website. The first one that I saw was the one on the brick sidewalk. The placement was so different that I had to read what it said. I thought it was pretty hilarious and a great idea for a Crimestoppers campaign. I had to look at all of theme after that and I think they're all equally brilliant.

This product is a "hangover cure" package, which I think is great right away. I love the product name. Again, there is a Victorian feel to this product like the soap I posted earlier.

These ads were in CMYK magazine. They are for a design awards show. The theme is design show virgins, so they're trying to get more entries I'm guessing. I just really loved all the taglines and the whole concept. I thought it was really funny and clever.

I found both of these examples in CMYK magazine. The first is a design for rolls of toilet paper and tissues. This caught my eye because I thought it was very clever. Every time you use something, you are making the trees disappear, which is what is actually happening. I'm not sure how affective this would be in helping the environment, but it's a good idea for a design.

The second is packaging for a brand of beer. I was just really drawn to the red ribbon on the front and the typeface.

The first example is from CMYK magazine. The product is soap, which is why I like the name "You Smell." I thought the Victorian style approach to the packaging was a nice touch. There are some nice curves and banners, but there is still a bit of a contemporary feel so it's not too vintage.

The second examples are just a few logos I found in CMYK. I particularly like the yawn one and the urban forest. I think those do a great job of incorporating the imagery with the name of the business.

I found both of these examples in CMYK magazine.
The first is for a sports drink called Serum. I really like the idea of using a medical theme throughout the packaging. They even took so far as to shape the containers like IV bags. It's a very unique approach.

The second example is a series of books by Hitchcock that were designed to look like screenplays, complete with coffee stains and all. Again, I thought this was a unique way of packaging something that could of been done very traditional and boring.

I found these posters in CMYK magazine.
I basically just thought they were hilarious, and a really unique approach to take for a Shakespeare advertisement. I would assume they geared this towards a younger demographic.

This piece is a movie poster and DVD cover for the movie Away We Go.
I found this at www.iwatchstuff.com and from my copy of the DVD that I didn't have time to scan.
I chose this because I love everything about it. I think the illustration is wonderful and the integration of the photograph with the hand-drawn look is done very well.
I think the overall look and feel goes well with the movie which is a more light-hearted, quirky romantic comedy.
The colors especially, being a little unsaturated and not overwhelming, create a very relaxed and comfortable mood.

I found this examples in Communication Arts magazine.
The first is an advertisement for Purell hand sanitizer. I found this effective because especially nowadays with the all the swine flu scare I think a lot of people are obsessed with germs. I know I get paranoid and immediately grab some hand sanitizer in certain situations. This illustrated one of the times people start to think about all the germs they're getting on their hands at that moment, the elevator buttons. By actually putting the words of what you could be touching by the buttons, I know it makes me want some Purell.

The second design, I just liked the style. I love collages so I tend to be drawn to those pieces, and I think this one is a great example. I also loved the line "you both know bullets travel faster than backup." It added some real emotion to the design.

I found these ads in Computer Arts magazine, again.
They are for a shredder company. The tag line if you can't see it reads, "keep secrets secret."
I thought this was a clever campaign with using that tag line with the shredded images. Obviously, the first one is a UFO, then Marilyn and Elvis.
It's a fairly simple design, but it works and gets the point across quickly.

I've loved these ads since the first time I saw them in Rolling Stone magazine. I saw one of these in Communication Arts and was reminded of them, so I went to the art director's website, Jason Stanfield, and found the rest of the series. I love the nostalgia of these pieces with the old photographs and the coloring that is going on to help portray that feeling. What really impresses me about these pieces though is the text. I think it's brilliant and hilarious.

These are a couple advertisements for some sort of book donation organization. I found these examples in Communication Arts magazine, I believe it was from 2007. What drew me to these pieces was the unique way they chose to use their space. The stairs are turned into classic books stacked on top of each other. I thought it was a clever way of using their environment and much more affective than just putting up a poster in the same hallway. Also, the windows have been turned into a bookshelf which much like the stairs serves as a great way to use the space and get the point across.

It's how you put it together.

I found this series about the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Communication Arts magazine, the Advertising Annual 2008. When I first saw this pieces, the imagery drew me in right away. I didn't read the text, but I just kept looking at the images thinking I know these symbols. Then, when I finally read the tag line, "it's how you put it together" everything made sense. I think it's a really great and creative way to promote their art school. Pretty much everyone knows those symbols and someone had to design them, this school is trying to tell their potential students that they could be the next person to come up with one of these designs. I love that their simple, but also a little interactive because it gets you thinking about why these recognizable symbols are scrambled up, then when you see the text you get the message.

billboard

Keeping with the theme of the first project, I decided to post a billboard.
I found this example in Communication Arts magazine, I can't remember the month but it was from 2008.
I think this is a good example of a billboard, because it's simple but it's still creative. Writing the word BATS upside to mimic how they sleep is a great idea.
Also the use of black negative space not only allows the billboard to be easily seen against the sky, but it goes along with the nocturnal nature of the bats. Then to the side you have the zoo's logo so you know what the billboard is for. In my opinion, this is a pretty good example of how a simple billboard can still be effective and creative.
